Animorphs*
September 20th - November 8th, 2025
Gallery 44 Centre for Contemporary Photography

With its opening asterisk, Animorphs* begins with a glimmer, the twinkle of an eye. Symbols, gestures and layered images combine across three vitrines to create a shapeshifting array in this new work by Philip Leonardo Ocampo. At its centre, a figure turns away, arms flung backward in a pose that wavers between claws and wings. Interlaced lines of lenticular material, composed of cutout tiles printed with animal figures, shift and transform with each angle of approach. Five painted symbols are layered across the body and reappear throughout the work. Each respectively represents one of the five animal groups: amphibians, mammals, birds, reptiles and fish.
